Some places just get into your heart—and Honeymoon Island is one of them for me.
As a real estate expert who lives and works right here in Dunedin, few things bring me more peace and perspective than walking the beaches of Honeymoon Island at sunrise or casting a line along its shores on a quiet afternoon. The island is a true treasure—raw Florida beauty, untouched by the overdevelopment seen in so many other coastal spots.
And it’s one of the many reasons more and more people are choosing to call the Dunedin area home.
Honeymoon Island is a protected barrier island just off the Dunedin Causeway, with nearly four miles of pristine beach, winding nature trails, and some of the best fishing spots in all of Tampa Bay. It’s one of the most-visited state parks in Florida, yet when you’re walking the northern stretch of beach with no buildings in sight, it feels like your own private world.
I often bring my camera and drone to capture its changing moods—sunrises, shorebirds, dolphins at play. And if I’m not photographing it, I’m often out there fishing for redfish, snook, and trout in the shallows and channels.
This is Old Florida at its finest.
One of the greatest pleasures of living in Dunedin is having Honeymoon Island as your backyard. Within just a few miles of downtown, you can go from your front door to beachside trailhead in minutes. The island offers:
Miles of beachcombing and walking
Shaded nature trails through pine forest and mangrove
Excellent inshore fishing spots (both from shore and kayak)
Paddleboarding and kayaking access
Birdwatching with ospreys, eagles, and more
Stunning sunsets over the Gulf
For me, starting or ending the day with a walk on Honeymoon Island is not a luxury—it’s a lifestyle choice. And it’s a key reason why so many homebuyers ask me to help them find properties close by.
The neighborhoods surrounding Honeymoon Island offer some of the most desirable homes in the greater Tampa Bay area:
Dunedin Causeway condos and townhomes with direct access to the water
Curlew Landings, Royal Stewart Arms, and Island Estates communities
Downtown Dunedin homes—walkable to restaurants, shops, and the Pinellas Trail, yet minutes from the island
Bayfront and waterfront homes along Bayshore Boulevard and Edgewater Drive
Demand for homes in these areas remains strong—buyers value not just proximity to Honeymoon Island, but the charming, walkable feel of Dunedin and the strong sense of community here.
For years, I’ve watched buyers fall in love with Dunedin for its blend of natural beauty and authentic small-town charm. They come for:
The laid-back coastal lifestyle
Proximity to beaches and state parks
Vibrant downtown scene with festivals, markets, breweries, and art
Easy access to Tampa, St. Pete, and Clearwater
Friendly neighborhoods with a welcoming spirit
And for those of us who know Honeymoon Island well, having that magical place just minutes away is one of the greatest joys of living here.
If you dream of starting your days with a sunrise beach walk or an evening fishing from the surf, I can help you find the perfect home nearby. Whether it’s a charming bungalow, a bayfront condo, or a family home with room to grow, I know the communities and the lifestyle that make this area so special.
